My scores were 1070 on the first day and 1090 on the second which gave me enough to beat the old county record by 81 points. My 60 yards still needs work as I have to reverse my sight but hopefully after the Youth Festival at Lilleshall in August I will be looking at moving up my poundage. I'd had a great coaching session with Amy earlier in the week and my form felt much better. It was great shooting with Ben and Luke too - always have fun with those guys! :)
For the Northern Counties Champs at Wetherby, I moved up an age group and shot a double Bristol 2 - the first time I had shot this round. Although I'm not quite 16 yet, we thought I may as well start shooting the higher rounds as soon as I can. Proud to say I broke the county record for the double and I was really pleased with how I shot. The conditions were very mixed - Saturday was gusty but sunny while Sunday was less windy but more rainy. It seems almost every competition this year has been very windy, very rainy or both!

I'm so thrilled to say I am the new National Junior Field Champion. This year it was hosted by the most excellent Pentref Bowmen on their really challenging course. It was only my second outing on the red peg after Dearne Valley in March so I was a bit worried going in as I'd heard a lot about how tough their courses can be! On the unmarked round I was able to get into a good rhythm as I had worked a lot on my gauging. My first day score of 232 was only 10 points off the county record and a big improvement over my previous Dearne Valley score. The marked round on day 2 was very difficult though. The course was much longer and peg positions were almost completely different. Target 5 was a 45m, 45 degree uphill shot and really hard! I scored 206 which I was really pleased with as my goal was 200. I can't put into words how pleased I was to hear my name being called out as the winner - my first National title. It's been an amazing experience and I've learnt so much. I also know what I've got to work on such as sloping shots and getting to know my sight marks better. My bow is in need of a tune too as even on the straight shots I was having to aim off. Overall it's been a fantastic weekend. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out, all at the club as always and also Colin and Joe for their advice, support and taking us all that way to South Wales! Also thanks to all my sponsors - Carbofast, Senior Architects, Nitro Strings, Colourfast. I've just returned from the Junior National Championships weekend at Lilleshall and I'm proud to say that I came 4th in the U16 category!
It's been such a positive experience and I was so determined and focused and confident. On the Saturday, I shot a 1200 (exactly!) for the Metric 3, a PB and a new county record (sorry Amy!). I felt I could have shot better too but I knew all my energies were going into the Sunday. I was 11th on that day, just one place out of my target of a top ten. For Sundays Bristol round, I shot a another PB of 1203 (out of a possible 1296) to give me that 4th place. I never shot less than 3 golds in any end and that score included a miss when I shot through my clicker after mistaking the click from the archer next to me! Oops. I am so happy to get into the top 5 in the country though. My goal at the start of the year was a top ten finish so 4th is just awesome. Just want to say, the 3 girls above me in the placings are so awesome and shot brilliantly and have also made appearances on the GB Junior Team! Amy Gott, who came 3rd, is my bestie and academy team mate so I'm chuffed for her too. I felt really strong throughout the entire weekend and my shoulder didn't complain once! On Saturday evening after the shoot, I spent some time correcting a couple of flaws that had crept in over the day such as my right elbow dropping on the release. This definitely helped me the next day. As I'm 16 in November, this was probably the last time I will shoot at the Met 3 / Bristol 3 distances and it was a brill way to move up categories. Thank you to everyone for supporting me - everyone down at the club, friends, family, sponsors (please visit my sponsors page! - they're all great!). Onwards and upwards now! |
