I'm so thrilled to say I am the new National Junior Field Champion. This year it was hosted by the most excellent Pentref Bowmen on their really challenging course.
It was only my second outing on the red peg after Dearne Valley in March so I was a bit worried going in as I'd heard a lot about how tough their courses can be! On the unmarked round I was able to get into a good rhythm as I had worked a lot on my gauging. My first day score of 232 was only 10 points off the county record and a big improvement over my previous Dearne Valley score.
The marked round on day 2 was very difficult though. The course was much longer and peg positions were almost completely different. Target 5 was a 45m, 45 degree uphill shot and really hard! I scored 206 which I was really pleased with as my goal was 200.
I can't put into words how pleased I was to hear my name being called out as the winner - my first National title.
It's been an amazing experience and I've learnt so much. I also know what I've got to work on such as sloping shots and getting to know my sight marks better. My bow is in need of a tune too as even on the straight shots I was having to aim off.
Overall it's been a fantastic weekend. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out, all at the club as always and also Colin and Joe for their advice, support and taking us all that way to South Wales! Also thanks to all my sponsors - Carbofast, Senior Architects, Nitro Strings, Colourfast.
