Just got back from an amazing couple of days with Amy down at Lilleshall training with the GB team! It's been an intense couple if days and I feel so lucky to have experienced a glimpse into the life of an international archery team. Everyone has been so nice and I've learnt so much. Big thing I've learnt is that my bow was seriously out if tune. Lloyd got me onto the slo-mo camera to see my arrows slapping around like an elastic band! Basically, amongst everything else, my arrows were waaaaay too weak. Trying out with some stiffer shafts showed it clearing my bow much cleaner and a miles better grouping. I also did loads of gym work too. The only bad thing is that I felt a serious 'pop' in my shoulder and it looks like I've pulled my bicep tendon meaning I'm going to miss this weekends 720 and Western we'd got planned :( Big thanks to Amy for arranging it, taking me down, looking after me and sorting me out! Can't thank you enough, it's been fantastic. I had a great time at Dearne Valleys record-status Easter Shoot. There were some top archers competing and I was in a group with Amy, Tracey Hill and Gary Cole. It was only my second FITA field shoot and my first from the red pegs so I was a bit nervous going in. I'd set myself a target of 400 points and as my limbs are still a little underpowered for 60m, I knew it would be a challenge!
After the first 12 unmarked, I'd struggled to estimate the longer distances which is understandable as I'd never shot those before. But after the first day, I'd managed to get my score up to 197, only 2 off my goal. On the second day, I was feeling more confident and despite struggling on the 60m ones, I scored 223 for a 2 day total of 420 - way over my target! I have learnt so much and know exactly what I've got to work on now. It's a big step up from the blue peg but I was only 4 points off my blue peg score from last year and I'm really happy with the way I shot. Big thanks to Amy, Tracey and Gary on my target - I loved shooting with you guys! |
